Promotion of young scientists and education

With the focus on young researchers and education, the Swiss Academies of Arts and Sciences pursue the goal to stimulate the discussion in society on the Swiss educational area and to bring together the relevant actors. In particular, the Academies are engaged to win the youth for scientific professions and scientific careers, especially in the areas with future needs for skilled personnel. In this regard, the Academies will assist in increasingly exploiting the potential identified in the baseline report "Fachkräfte für die Schweiz" by the Federal Department of Economic Affairs. Concerning the domain MINT (mathematics, informatics, natural sciences, technology), the Academies were mandated with a co-ordinating role among the different actors that support young researchers.
To fulfil their tasks in this focus, the Swiss Academies of Arts and Sciences organise several events, publish the results thereof, gather diverse specialists in committees and undertake numerous projects.

Liegt der Forschungsplatz Schweiz in Europa?

26. Oktober 2016,

  • Prof. Dr. Urs Baltensperger, Paul-Scherrer Institut (PSI), Präsident Fachausschuss Internationale Zusammenarbeit, Schweizerischer Nationalfonds (SNF)
  • Robert Rudolph, Mitglied der Geschäftsleitung, Bildung und Innovation, Swissmem
  • Prof. Dr. Björn Rasch, Cognitive Biopsychology and Methods, University of Fribourg
  • Prof. Dr. Adrian Jäggi, Studienleiter Physik und Astronomie, Universität Bern
  • Claudia Appenzeller, M.A., exec. MPA, Akademie der Wissenschaften Schweiz
  • Dr. Caspar Battegay, SNF-Ambizione-Beiträger, Séction d’allemand, Universität Lausanne, Die Junge Akademie

A national education strategy for Switzerland

With the «Plea for a national education strategy», the Swiss Academies of Arts and Sciences invite the educational actors to look at the challenges in the education system in their entirety and to develop a collective line of action. The Academies note an absence of a clear educational policy objective to direct and orient the co-ordination of the manifold processes in the educational domain. They propose to the Federal and Cantonal authorities to develop a national education strategy by involving the concerned actors.
